The Office of the Federal Ombudsman performs several tasks:

- it examines complaints from citizens about how the federal administrative authorities act and function;

- it investigates, at the request of the House of Representatives, how the federal administrative services function;

- it makes recommendations to the federal administrative authorities and to Parliament based on observations made during these two missions;

- it reports to Parliament.
